Srinagar, (DD): A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel allegedly died by suicide while on sentry duty in the Trehgam area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, sources said today.
According to reliable sources, the jawan, whose identity has not been disclosed yet, reportedly shot himself in the head while performing duty. Fellow personnel immediately rushed to the spot and shifted him to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
The reason behind the tragic incident remains unknown, and authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to his death. Senior officials are expected to look into whether work-related stress or personal issues played a role in the incident.
Suicides among security personnel have been a growing concern, with experts pointing to factors such as prolonged deployments, high-stress environments, and limited access to mental health support as possible contributors. Incidents like these highlight the urgent need for enhanced counseling facilities, stress management programs, and regular mental health check-ups for personnel serving in challenging conditions.
