Udhampur: DD, An Indian Army jawan was martyred during an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in the upper reaches of Doda and adjoining Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur District, last night.
Acting on the intelligence inputs, a joint team of security forces had launched a search operation, following a specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in the region, as per the official sources.
The security force team closed in, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce gunfight.
They said that during the exchange of fire, one soldier sustained critical injuries and later, succumbed. The initial reports suggest that two to three terrorists remain trapped in the area. (KNC)
