Udhampur ,DD:- Security forces are in a fierce anti-terror operation for the second day in succession in Jopher village, in the Ramnagar tehsil of the Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces launched the operation yesterday when they received input on suspicious movement in the area.
As per reports, a joint search operation was initiated by Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) along with the CRPF and Army troops. During the search operation yesterday, the security forces were fired upon by hiding terrorists, resulting in an intense firefight that lasted for about two hours before abruptly halting as night fell.
As night fell on yesterday, the cordon and search operation gained momentum. With the early morning light today, security personnel such as the J&K Police’s SOG , CRPF, and Army men resumed search with fresh vigor, further constricting their grip around the encounter area.
Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur, Amod Ashok Nagpuri, while interacting with the media late last evening, said police received a report in the morning that suspicious men were seen at Jopher village under the domain of Ramnagar Police Station. The SOG Udhampur squads were immediately moved to the scene and started fencing off the spot. While they were searching, an exchange of fire started with the concealed terrorists, and the security forces responded. More reinforcements such as CRPF and Army squads were deployed to reinforce the operation.
The operation is being conducted in difficult terrain with high mountains, dense forest, and the Ujh stream running below. Intelligence indicates two to three terrorists are hiding in this forest cover, which has led to this massive search operation.
Authorities confirmed that none of the security personnel in the operation got harmed. Though conditions were challenging due to terrain difficulties, morale levels among forces continue to be excellent as they have been working seamlessly to displace the threat. The fighting ensued yesterday evening and lasted for a period of around two hours before forces retreated only to advance towards the goal come what may.
