Jammu, (DD): Social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, along with seven others, has been booked for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Reasi district.
Police confirmed the incident, stating, “Strict action will be taken against anyone violating the sanctity of this holy place. The law will deal firmly with those who disrupt public order and hurt religious sentiments.”
According to police sources, on March 15, the hotel management reported that Orry and his associates were allegedly consuming alcohol inside their cottage suite, despite being informed that alcohol and non-vegetarian food were strictly prohibited within the premises due to the religious significance of the location.
A special police team, under the supervision of SP Katra, DySP Katra, and SHO Katra, was formed to investigate the matter. Viral videos showing Orry with liquor bottles and a half-filled glass further fueled public outrage.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, including political parties. People’s Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson Mohit Bhan strongly condemned the act and called for stringent action against those involved.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to upholding the sanctity of pilgrimage sites, warning that any such violations will be met with strict legal consequences.(DD)
