Home Minister Speaks with LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah; Top Security Officials Assess Situation

Srinagar, (DD)Prime Minister Narendra Modi, presently on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, has spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone regarding the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The Prime Minister has directed the Home Minister to take all necessary steps and to personally visit the site of the incident.
The attack, which took place in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam earlier this afternoon, left multiple casualties, with several feared dead and others seriously injured, according to initial reports.
Following the directive, Home Minister Amit Shah convened an emergency meeting at his residence in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Chief, the Union Home Secretary, and other senior officials.
Shah also held separate telephonic conversations with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to review the situation and discuss the immediate response.
Director General of CRPF, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and senior Army officials joined the high-level deliberations via video conferencing to coordinate further action and ensure the safety of civilians and tourists across the region.
The central government is expected to issue a formal statement later this evening, while additional security measures are being taken in and around the affected area.(DD)
