Srinagar/Jammu, Poonch,(DD): The Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small-arms firing during the intervening night of May 5-6, targeting several forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to official sources, the firing was reported from sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army responded swiftly and proportionately to the ceasefire violations.

“There was unprovoked small-arms fire from across the LoC during the night. Indian troops responded in a calibrated and effective manner,” an official said.

No casualties or significant damage have been reported on the Indian side. Troops along the LoC remain on heightened alert.

The situation continues to be closely monitored as recent weeks have witnessed a rise in ceasefire violations across the border (DD)
