Parliamentary Standing Committee holds meeting with various Stakeholders to discuss CSR initiatives

Leh, DD: The afternoon session of the Department related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports held under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Digvijaya Singh.

The session focused on the utilization of Corporate Social Responsibility initiative funding to assess and support the progress of various departments in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given by Deputy Managing Director and Cooperative Development Officer SBI Kishore Kumar Poludasu, highlighting the SBI CSR funding to support education and sports in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

He also presented the progress of SBI’s flagship programs including education, sports, healthcare, livelihood, rural development among others.

Anil Kumar Jadli, Director, NTPC, outlined NTPC’s journey and presence in Leh, with a focus on Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), which aims to benefit girl children in the remote regions of Ladakh.

He further elaborated on key initiatives such as upgradation of education and healthcare under the Siksha Rath projects, along with skill development training programs conducted in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

He also informs the CSR initiative under the sports for development of Archery in India where the members expressed concern about the need to focus on the development of other sports.

Additionally, Uttamlal, Director, NHPC, provided insights into NHPC’s authorized share capital and extensive outreach of its CSR initiatives across various states and UT, particularly in remote and high-altitude areas.

He also emphasized NHPC’s pan-India presence, presented financial statements related to its CSR efforts, and highlighted the expenditure incurred under these initiatives.

Vikram Singh Malik, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, highlighted the key developments and initiatives undertaken by Royal Enfield under its CSR initiatives.

He emphasized the company’s contributions toward promoting sports in the region.

He also discussed various proposals which are currently in pipeline, which aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure, training facilities, and opportunities for the local youth of Ladakh.

Manjushree Dayanand, Executive Director, Sport Authority of India, also stressed on the need of funding to set up a centre of excellence in sports in both Leh and Kargil.

Following the presentations, the Parliamentary Standing Committee engaged in an interactive session with the officials of UT administration and various Organisations.

They raised key concerns related to the Projects for Para Athlete Sports Scholarship, CSR subsidiaries and funding initiatives, and infrastructure development in the health and education sectors. Members also recommended the organizations of specialized health camps for diseases like cervical cancer.

The meeting concluded with felicitation of the Committee by various organizations.DD
