Parliamentary Standing Committee Visits Schools & Institutions to Review Education Initiatives

LEH:DD, The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, led by its Chairman and Member of Rajya Sabha, Shri Digvijay Singh, commenced its two-day study visit to Leh today.

The committee is in Leh to assess and understand various initiatives undertaken to support school education in the Union Territory.

The day began with a detailed presentation on ‘Initiatives to Support School Education in Ladakh.’ Ms. A Srija, Economics Advisor, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Shri Bhanu Praba, Administrative Secretary, School Education, UT Ladakh, jointly briefed the committee on the progress, policies, and challenges in the education sector of Ladakh.

Later in the day, the parliamentary delegation received a warm traditional welcome at the Druk Padma Karpo School.

Principal Mingyur Angmo, along with the students, greeted the committee with customary Khataks and a welcome song. Principal Angmo provided an insightful introduction to the school’s unique educational approach and its historical connection to the Drukpa lineage.

The committee also included visits to other significant educational institutions. They stopped at the PM Shri Govt Primary School in Spituk to observe its functioning.
Administrative Secretary Education Department gave an overview of the functioning of the school.

The committee also visited SECMOL (Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh) and HIAL (Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh). Sonam Wangchuk, Founder SECMOL and HIAL apprised the guests of their alternative education learning system at school level and at higher education level.

The committee also visited Sangam River point, Hall of Fame and Leh Palace where lights show was arranged for them.

The committee is slated to continue their visit on July 18th, with further engagements at University of Ladakh, with an aimed at gathering comprehensive information to inform their recommendations on education policy.DD
