PDP Responsible for J&K mess: Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu, (DD): Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, has held the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) accountable for the region’s current challenges. He accused the party of failing in governance during its tenure and contributing to the political and administrative turmoil in the Union Territory.

Speaking to reporters outside Assembly in Jammu, Choudhary criticized the PDP’s past decisions, particularly its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014, which he claimed played a role in the abrogation of Article 370 and the subsequent loss of J&K’s special status.

“The PDP needs to introspect instead of blaming others. Their governance failures and opportunistic politics have left the region in disarray,” Choudhary said. He further accused the party leadership of misleading the people with hollow promises while ignoring critical issues affecting the region.

The PDP, which has been struggling to regain political ground after its dramatic decline in the 2024 Assembly elections—where it secured only three seats—has been vocal in opposing the current government’s policies. However, Choudhary dismissed their criticism, stating that the party must first “set its house in order” before questioning others.

His remarks come amid growing political tensions in Jammu and Kashmir, with the National Conference (NC) and PDP locked in a battle for relevance in the post-Article 370 era. (DD)
