Srinagar,(DD)In a significant political development, three regional parties—Sajad Lone’s People’s Conference (PC), Hakeem Yaseen’s People’s Democratic Front (PDF), and the Justice and Development Front, reportedly backed by Jamaat-e-Islami—have come together to form a new political coalition under the banner of the People’s Alliance for Change (PAC).
Announcing the formation of the alliance at a press conference in Srinagar, PC Chairman Sajad Lone said the need for a new political front arose from a “huge governance deficit” in Jammu and Kashmir.
“There is no governance on the ground. Youth are living in fear, and administrative accountability is completely absent,” Lone remarked, stressing that the new alliance aims to “offer hope and a viable alternative to the people of J&K.”
A senior People’s Conference leader echoed similar concerns, stating that the existing political structures have failed to deliver on governance and public welfare, creating a vacuum that the PAC intends to fill.
The coalition is expected to contest the upcoming Assembly elections together, though details of a common minimum programme, seat-sharing, and leadership roles within the alliance are yet to be finalised.
Political analysts view the formation of PAC as a potential game-changer, particularly in constituencies disenchanted with both the BJP and traditional regional players like the National Conference and PDP.
Further announcements are expected in the coming days(DD)
