Jammu, (DD): Hundreds of daily wagers and casual laborers of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department staged a massive protest in Jammu on Monday, demanding regularization of their services and the release of pending wages.
The protesters, carrying banners and shouting slogans against the government, attempted to march towards the Civil Secretariat but were stopped by the police. Security personnel were deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident.
Speaking to the media, the protesters accused the administration of neglecting their long-standing demands. “We have been working for decades on meager wages without any job security. Despite repeated assurances, the government has failed to fulfill its promises of regularization and timely salaries,” said one of the agitating workers.
The demonstrators warned of an intensified agitation if their grievances were not addressed soon. “If the government continues to ignore us, we will be left with no choice but to escalate our protests across Jammu and Kashmir,” they added.
The protest highlights the growing frustration among contractual and daily wage workers in J&K, who have been demanding policy reforms for job security and financial stability(DD)
