Sonamarg, (DD) Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he is committed to fulfilling all promises made, including those related to the restoration of the J&K’s statehood.

During the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel in Central Kashmir, PM Modi spoke of his unwavering commitment to keeping promises. In a direct response to the ongoing demand for statehood restoration, he said, “I am Modi and I keep the promises I make. All the commitments that have been made will be fulfilled.”

He further added, “The right time is coming for the right works,” suggesting that the long-awaited political changes in Jammu and Kashmir, including the restoration of statehood, would be addressed at an appropriate time.

Earlier, in his address, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recognized the development strides made under PM Modi’s leadership, particularly in improving infrastructure and conducting elections in the Union Territory. Omar praised PM Modi for fulfilling promises such as addressing the “Delhi ki Doori” (distance from Delhi) and holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which were significant milestones for the region.

However, Omar also raised concerns about the unfulfilled promise of restoring J&K’s statehood, a demand that has been a focal point for many residents and political leaders in the region. “The two promises, including the ‘Delhi ki Doori’ and conducting assembly elections, have been fulfilled by you,” Omar said. “But the third promise, the restoration of statehood, has not yet been addressed. The people of J&K, including media persons, often ask me about it.”

Omar expressed optimism that this remaining promise would soon be realized, stating, “My heart believes that the promise will also be fulfilled by you soon,” reflecting the region’s continued hope for political empowerment and autonomy.

The remarks made during the event underscored both the progress made under the current administration and the ongoing aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for full political restoration.(DD)
