Srinagar, (DD): In a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off the Vande Bharat Express to Kashmir on February 17.
This marks a major milestone in the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, a long-awaited dream for the region.
An official confirmed that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the specially designed Vande Bharat Express from the Jammu division, ushering in a new era of rail travel in the Valley.
“After years of dedication, engineering brilliance, and relentless efforts, Kashmir’s rail connectivity is now a reality. The Vande Bharat Express will soon operate on this historic route,” the official stated.
The USBRL project has seen extensive trial runs, crossing some of the most remarkable engineering marvels in the country. Among them is the Anji Khad Bridge, featuring a 331-meter-high pylon, and the Chenab Bridge, standing at 359 meters, making it the world’s highest railway bridge—surpassing even the Eiffel Tower. These structures not only strengthen regional connectivity but also highlight India’s advancements in infrastructure and technology.
Designed to withstand Jammu and Kashmir’s extreme winter conditions, the Vande Bharat Express comes equipped with advanced climate-resistant technology. “The train includes specialized heating systems to prevent freezing of water and bio-toilet tanks, ensuring smooth operations in sub-zero temperatures,” the official added.
The train’s air-brake system has also been optimized for efficient performance in harsh winter conditions. Additionally, embedded heating elements in the windshield ensure automatic defrosting for clear visibility, enhancing safety during extreme weather.
Apart from these unique adaptations, the Vande Bharat Express will offer standard amenities, including fully air-conditioned coaches, automatic plug doors, and mobile charging sockets, providing a comfortable travel experience for passengers.
With this inauguration, rail connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar is set to receive a significant boost, offering faster and more efficient transportation for both residents and tourists.(DD)
