Srinagar, (DD) Continuing its relentless campaign against the growing menace of drug abuse in the region, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested seven drug peddlers across Srinagar, Budgam, and Shopian. A variety of contraband and psychotropic substances were recovered from their possession during separate operations.

In Srinagar, the Police Station Khanyar team, while conducting routine patrols in the Bishambarnagar area, intercepted two suspicious individuals. Upon searching them, a significant quantity of contraband substances was seized. The arrested individuals were identified as Imran Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Naibasti, Anantnag, and Abid Hamid Nanda, a resident of Dagpora Khanbal, Anantnag.

In another operation, the Police Station Nishat team, during a checkpoint at Sheikh Mohalla Brein, arrested Umar Farooq Sheikh, a resident of the same area, and recovered 50 grams of a charas-like substance.

Meanwhile, in Budgam’s Beerwah area, a police team intercepted three suspicious persons during a checkpoint at village Lolipora. The suspects—Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Rouf Ahmad Bhat, and Mukhtar Ahmad Najar—were found in possession of 49 grams of charas-like substances wrapped in corn husk, 368 grams of charas powder, 112 banned drug tablets, Rs 2,520 in cash, and two mobile phones.

In Shopian, a joint operation by the police and CRPF (14th Battalion) at Daramdoora Keegam led to the discovery of two Nylon bags containing 16.7 kilograms of charas hidden in the residence of Imtiyaz Ahmad Hurra.

All seven suspects have been arrested, and cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at their respective police stations. Investigations are ongoing.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, including drug-related offenses, to their nearest police station or by dialing 112. Authorities reassured the community that strict action will be taken against drug peddlers and other criminals in accordance with the law.

The efforts to curb drug trafficking are part of a broader initiative by law enforcement agencies to protect society from the devastating impact of drugs.(DD)
