SRINAGAR: DD, Police Thursday conducted multiple raids in bookshops across various districts of Kashmir Valley to put a curb on books that are peddling Anti-Nationalist Ideologies.
As per the official statement, in compliance with Order No. Home-ISA/223/2025-11(7655892) dated August 5, 2025, raids were conducted in various bookshops for search and forfeiture of banned books across District Srinagar under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The objective of the operation was to identify, seize, and forfeit any literature that propagates or systematically disseminates false narratives, promotes secessionist ideologies, or otherwise poses a threat to the Sovereignty and Unity of India.
These measures have been undertaken as part of a broader effort to counter subversive and anti-national content that could incite unrest or undermine National Integrity. The searches were conducted in a peaceful manner, and due legal process was followed.

Srinagar Police remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no material or content which endangers the Security or Integrity of the Nation is allowed to circulate among the general public.

Further action, if warranted, will be taken under law, as per the findings of the ongoing investigation.
Similarly, Handwara police also launched a series of coordinated and legally sanctioned searches at various bookshops to prevent the circulation of literature prescribed by the competent authorities.
The operation was meticulously planned and executed under the supervision of senior police officers. Teams were deployed across multiple locations in the district to inspect shops suspected of distributing or storing content declared illegal under relevant laws. The drive was conducted in full compliance with legal norms and procedural safeguards, ensuring transparency and professionalism throughout.

During searches, bookshop owners were clearly instructed not to stock or distribute any kind of such literature that promotes extremist ideologies or supports unlawful organisations.
They were also made aware of the legal ramifications for circulating such banned literature as is mentioned under the relevant sections of law which prescribe stringent penalties for dealing in such material.

The owners were further advised to routinely review their inventories and report any suspicious consignments or materials inadvertently received from distributors. Such raids were also conducted in Shopian, and other districts of Kashmir Valley.DD
