Police cracks down on illicit liquor trade: 76 Arrests, massive seizures, and 74 cases registered

Jammu,DD: In a relentless crackdown on illicit liquor smuggling, Jammu and Kashmir Police took strict action across District Jammu from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. The year-long operations led to the registration of 74 cases, the arrest of 76 offenders, and the seizure of massive quantities of illicit liquor, preventing its illegal distribution. These actions reinforce Jammu Police’s commitment to curbing illegal trade and ensuring public safety.The crackdown resulted in the seizure of 198 bottles, 3 half-bottles, and 4212 quarters of JK Whisky, along with 4 bottles of rum, 7 bottles and 49 cans of beer, and 65 litres of illicit liquor.This large-scale enforcement drive was carried out through intelligence-led raids, highway checks, and surprise inspections at vulnerable points across the district.Police personnel from various Police Stations, including Pacca Danga, Nagrota, Jhajjar Kotli, Akhnoor, Domana, Miran Sahib, R.S. Pura, Bishnah, Arnia, and other units, played a crucial role in disrupting the illegal supply chain. The teams conducted night-long surveillance, raided unauthorized storage locations, and intercepted vehicles transporting illicit liquor to ensure strict enforcement of Excise laws.Illicit liquor trade poses grave risks to public health, law and order, and revenue loss to the government. Smugglers frequently use concealed transport methods, fake permits, and unauthorized outlets to distribute alcohol illegally. In response, Jammu Police adopted a zero-tolerance approach, arresting key offenders and dismantling supply networks operating across the district.This sustained campaign is a direct warning to those involved in the illegal liquor trade.The seized liquor, meant for unlawful distribution, has been confiscated, and strict legal action has been taken against offenders under the Excise Act. Jammu Police is committed to eliminating illicit liquor trade and will continue its crackdown with even greater intensity in the coming months.The public is urged to report any illegal liquor activities to the nearest police station, as *community cooperation is vital in ensuring a crime-free society.Jammu Police assures that no illegal activity will be allowed to flourish, and offenders will face immediate arrest and prosecution under stringent laws.
