Jammu, DD, Advocate Purnima Sharma, BJP Spokesperson for Jammu & Kashmir and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, today sought strict action against the political parties allegedly shielding those behind the vandalism of the Ashoka Emblem at the revered Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar.

Calling the incident “an unpardonable assault on the soul of India,” the senior BJP Spokesperson said that any attempt to deface the national emblem is not mere vandalism but “a direct challenge to India’s sovereignty and an act of anti-national provocation.”

Welcoming the registration of an FIR in the matter, she demanded swift arrests and prosecution of all involved under the strictest provisions of law. “FIRs alone are not enough. The culprits must be booked under stringent laws, including sedition, if applicable. No one should be spared,” she asserted.

Adv Purnima Sharma strongly criticised the silence of the INDI-alliance, terming it “political cowardice and dangerous appeasement.” She questioned why none of its leaders had condemned the act. “Is their silence an endorsement of this anti-national crime? Are they so desperate for vote-bank politics that they cannot speak for the dignity of India’s national emblem?” she asked.

She demanded that any political party or leader found justifying, shielding, or indirectly supporting the vandals must face legal consequences. “Those who provide political cover to such criminals are no less than accomplices. No individual or party should be above the law when the pride of the nation is at stake,” she said.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the senior BJP leader urged the central government to deploy dedicated surveillance and protection for national symbols and monuments across Jammu & Kashmir. “Today it is the Ashoka Emblem—tomorrow it could be our Constitution. We cannot afford complacency,” she warned.

The vandalism took place within the Hazratbal Shrine premises, a site of deep religious importance in Kashmir. Authorities have initiated a high-priority investigation, with CCTV footage under review and suspects being tracked.

Concluding her statement, Purnima Sharma said the people of India were watching closely. “The BJP has made its stand clear. Now the INDI-alliance must answer—will they stand with national unity or with silence that emboldens anti-national forces?”DD
