Poonch, (DD): Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday visited border villages in Poonch to meet families affected by the recent cross-border shelling from Pakistan.
Calling the situation a “major tragedy,” Gandhi expressed grief over the civilian casualties and widespread destruction caused by the shelling. During his visit, he interacted with displaced and bereaved families, offering his condolences and solidarity.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the pain and suffering these families are going through. Many lives have been lost, homes destroyed, and livelihoods upended. The people shared their concerns with me, and I will raise their voices at the national level,” he said.
Gandhi also criticised the lack of adequate rehabilitation measures for border residents and stressed the need for long-term solutions to protect civilians living in conflict-prone areas.
His visit comes amid growing demands for compensation, better infrastructure, and safety mechanisms for those living along the Line of Control.(DD)
