Rain, Thunderstorms Likely in J&K on June 2–3: MeT Department

Srinagar, (DD)The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory predicting another spell of rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir on June 2 and 3.

As per the latest update from Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, the weather on Sunday (June 1) is expected to be partly to generally cloudy, with chances of brief showers and gusty winds in many areas during the afternoon.

Between June 2 and 3, light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers are likely at scattered to many places across the Union Territory. There is also a possibility of gusty winds and lightning during the evening hours of June 2.

Looking ahead, the forecast for June 4 to 6 suggests mostly dry weather, though a few isolated places may experience brief showers or light rain in the late afternoon. A similar weather pattern is expected to continue on June 7 and 8, with generally dry conditions and a slight chance of light rain or a thundershower in the afternoon.

In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at several locations, with light snowfall reported in higher elevations.

Pahalgam received 36.8 mm of rainfall

Banihal recorded 34.3 mm

Gusty winds were observed in:

Baramulla (31 km/h)

Jammu (54 km/h)

Kathua (64 km/h)

The MeT Department has urged the public to remain cautious, especially on the evening of June 2, and advised people to stay away from electric poles, loose structures, old trees, and overhead wires to prevent accidents during thunderstorms.(DD)
