Srinagar, (DD): A spell of widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours has led to a significant dip in night temperatures, offering welcome relief from the recent heatwave conditions.

According to data shared by Kashmir Weather, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 19.0°C, down sharply from the previous night’s 23.5°C. Other areas followed suit — Qazigund dropped to 18.6°C (from 21.4°C), Pahalgam cooled to 14.2°C (from 17.0°C), Kokernag settled at 18.2°C, Gulmarg at 13.5°C, and Kupwara also at 18.2°C.

In terms of rainfall, Wular in north Kashmir recorded the highest at 32.5 mm, followed closely by Srinagar with 31.3 mm, Khudwani with 25.5 mm, and Sonamarg with 21.5 mm. Budgam and Baramulla registered 10 mm each, while Srinagar Airport saw 16.4 mm.

The Jammu region too experienced light to moderate rainfall, with Rajouri receiving 47.2 mm, followed by Katra at 45.2 mm and Jammu city at 39.4 mm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted a decline in temperatures starting July 8, along with spells of rain across several districts — especially in Jammu.

Weather officials say this cooling trend is likely to persist over the coming days, with more intermittent showers expected. The change in conditions is a relief for residents, particularly after days of sweltering heat.(DD)
