Jammu, (DD): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan, Jammu, to review the ongoing rescue and relief operations following the Kishtwar cloudburst that has claimed 65 lives.
The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, senior Army commanders, and top officials from the civil administration.
During the discussions, the Defence Minister assessed the ground situation, reviewed the pace of operations, and stressed the need to intensify efforts for rescue, rehabilitation, and restoration. He assured full support from the Union Government to the Jammu and Kashmir administration in extending every possible help to the affected families.
Due to adverse weather conditions, Singh could not visit the cloudburst-hit Chasoti village. Instead, he visited Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, where he interacted with several injured survivors admitted for treatment. He inquired about their health condition and appreciated the efforts of the medical staff attending to them.
The cloudburst, which struck Chasoti village on August 14, triggered flash floods that caused extensive destruction. So far, 65 people have lost their lives, while more than 34 remain missing.(DD)
