Kishtwar, (DD): In an unusual enforcement action, a three-wheeler auto driver was challaned by the police in Bonjwah, a remote area of Kishtwar, for not wearing a seat belt.

The challan has raised eyebrows, as auto-rickshaws generally do not come equipped with seat belts. Local residents and fellow drivers were left surprised and confused over the applicability of the rule to three-wheelers, with some questioning whether it was a genuine oversight or a misunderstanding of traffic laws.
While the police have not issued an official statement, the incident has sparked discussions about traffic enforcement practices in rural and remote areas. Some have defended the police action, saying it reflects stricter implementation of road safety rules, while others have called for greater awareness and clarity on how traffic laws should apply to different vehicle categories (DD)
