Kishtwar: DD, The Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team of Block Kishtwar conducted a Mop-Up Round for National Deworming Day today, ensuring that students who were absent or unwell on March 10 received their deworming treatment. The initiative, carried out under the supervision of Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kishtwar, and Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Block Medical Officer (BMO), Kishtwar, aimed to provide Albendazole tablets to all eligible children and adolescents aged 1-19 years.
Led by Dr. Nazir Hussain and Mr. Ashiq Hussain Malik, the RBSK team visited various schools and Anganwadi centers across the district to administer the deworming medicine. Dr. Nazir Hussain emphasized the importance of ensuring no child is left out, stating, “The Mop-Up Round is crucial in achieving full coverage and protecting children from the harmful effects of intestinal worms. Even a single missed dose can impact a child’s health and development.”
Dr. Nazir Hussain , Medical Officer highlighted the role of teachers and health workers in the success of the program, saying, “With the support of schools and Anganwadi workers, we are ensuring that every child who missed the initial round gets dewormed today. This step is essential in maintaining a worm-free and healthier future for our children.”
The deworming initiative is part of the national strategy to combat parasitic infections, which can cause anemia, malnutrition, and other health issues affecting growth and cognitive development. The RBSK team also reinforced the importance of maintaining hygiene practices such as washing hands, drinking clean water, wearing shoes, and avoiding open defecation to prevent reinfection.
The successful completion of the Mop-Up Round ensures that maximum children benefit from the deworming program, contributing to better health outcomes in the district. The Directorate of Health Services Jammu and the Health Education Bureau continue to work towards making Kishtwar worm-free and healthier for future generations.DD
