Record-Breaking Heatwave to Grip Kashmir: Temperatures Soar to Unusual Highs

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar,(DD)Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for an intense heatwave over the next three days, with weather experts forecasting unusually high temperatures, particularly on Thursday and Friday. The plains of Kashmir are expected to witness a sharp rise in mercury, touching up to 34°C, a rare phenomenon for this time of the year.

According to Kashmir Weather, these soaring temperatures may shatter long-standing records and bring severe discomfort to the region, which typically enjoys moderate summer conditions.

“This level of heat in late May is highly unusual for the Valley,” said a meteorological expert. “It’s important for people to remain cautious, especially during peak afternoon hours.”

Authorities have urged residents to take preventive measures—stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and look after children and elderly citizens, who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

The heatwave comes amid ongoing concerns about climate variability in the region, with rising temperatures and erratic weather patterns increasingly becoming the norm.(DD)
