Srinagar, (DD): In a first for Jammu and Kashmir, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will pay homage to the J&K’s martyrs, including soldiers and policemen, during Republic Day 2025.
This historic tribute marks a significant step in recognising the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the nation.
On the morning of January 26, Choudhary will visit the Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park, Srinagar, to lay floral wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes. Following this solemn ceremony, he will preside over the Republic Day function at Bakhshi Stadium, the central venue for the celebrations in Srinagar.
This initiative, unprecedented in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, reflects the Deputy Chief Minister’s commitment to honoring the region’s martyrs. The Balidan Stambh, a memorial inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on August 15, 2024, was constructed at a cost of Rs 4.8 crore as a symbol of the valor and dedication of J&K’s soldiers and police personnel.
Observers have hailed this move as a unifying gesture, fostering respect for the contributions of the region’s heroes while promoting a sense of national pride. This year’s Republic Day celebrations promise to carry a deeper resonance, with the tribute at Balidan Stambh serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.(DD)
