Srinagar, TDD,National Conference leader and Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah has announced a peaceful protest on December 22 outside the chief minister’s official residence on Gupkar Road, Srinagar, to demand a fair and rational reservation policy.
In a statement shared via X, Ruhullah said he had previously urged citizens to wait until December 22 to give the elected government time to address concerns about the reservation policy introduced by the lieutenant governor-led administration. Since no action has been taken, he has decided to stand by his commitment and join the protest at 2 PM.
“I will join the people in a peaceful and dignified attempt to demand answers from the government,” Ruhullah said, adding that he has observed mixed reactions to the formation of a sub-committee addressing the issue.
The policy, implemented before the recent assembly elections, increased reservations for specific categories to 60%, reducing the general category’s share to 40%. This shift has sparked widespread criticism, with many calling it unfair to the majority population in the general category.
Ruhullah called on those participating to maintain civility and focus on genuine demands, while urging political opportunists to prove their sincerity through action rather than rhetoric. The protest is expected to amplify growing dissatisfaction over the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir. (TDD)
