Restrictions Imposed Within 5 km of Indo-Pak Border in J&K’s Kathua

Kathua, J&K (India): The District Administration has imposed restrictions on movement within a Kilometre area along the India-Pakistan International Border to ensure the safety of villagers and prevent anti-national activities.

“…the security situation in the border areas has become sensitive, and there is a possibility of cross-border firing at any time. Movement in border areas is required to be restricted to ensure the utmost safety of villagers and prevent any anti-national activities,” reads an order issued by the District Magistrate, Kathua, Rajesh Sharma.

The order was issued to check suspicious activities in the border areas.

Accordingly, the DM Kathua further states in his order: “…I am satisfied that there are sufficient grounds for proceedings under Section 163 BNSS for the immediate prevention of danger to human life and disturbance to public tranquillity, and it is necessary to impose restrictions on unnecessary movement in the border areas.”

The order further states that the restriction shall apply to a strip of five kilometres from the international border in Pharpur up to Karol Krishna. Moreover, the movement of heavy vehicles, including trucks, tippers, and multi-axle vehicles, is prohibited on the old Samba-Kathua road between 9 PM and 6 AM. This order shall remain in force for a period of sixty days.

Kathua district has witnessed several search operations in the upper reaches of Billawar and other adjoining areas following the movement of terrorists. The security forces are already on alert, and border patrolling has also been enhanced. A Jaish terrorist was recently neutralised in Billawar by the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.DD
