Jammu :DD, The Roopnagar JDA Housing Colony Welfare Association held a press conference today at the Press Club, Jammu, under the chairmanship of Sh. Uttam Deep Sharma. The session, attended by office bearers, distinguished guests, and media representatives, focused on the theme “Roopnagar Housing Colony: The Tale of Its Past, Present, and Future.”

Prominent members present included Bal Krishan Sharma (President), Sh. Vinod Vaid (General Secretary), Mohan Gupta (Senior Vice President), Er. Sagar Bodh Raj Dogra (Legal Advisor & Publicity In-charge), along with other senior members of the association.

During the conference, key issues related to the current state of Upper Roopnagar Housing Colony were discussed. A major point of deliberation was the JDA Club/Community Hall facility, its importance for the residents/public, and its long-awaited reopening. The association emphasized that long-pending projects, such as the completion of Greenbelt Park, have finally been brought to a logical conclusion after nearly 15 years of stagnation, boosting public morale and confidence in the administration.

The association also acknowledged the recent visit of MLA Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma , with respect to the recently concluded public outreach programme of ward no 62 and expressed gratitude for his proactive efforts in addressing grievances on-site. His visit was seen as a significant step in resolving critical community concerns which were pending since long time.

The role of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) under the administration of the current Vice Chairman (VC, JDA) Pankaj Kumar Sharma was also well appreciated by the public. The association expressed satisfaction with the JDA administration’s efficiency, stating that long-pending issues were resolved through strong decision-making and commitment. Residents are now optimistic about further improvements under the current VC’s administration. Accountability and transparency in JDA were also found to be brought back to the department under the administration of Pankaj Kumar Sharma, which seemed to have been missing in previous administrations. Furthermore, during the Vc’s public grievance visit at our colony on spot directions were given towards Reopening of shopping complex, introduction of primary Health Centre, ATM etc on the patter of a modern model colony.

Further discussions highlighted the role of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in the colony’s development. The association praised the current Commissioner of JMC, Dr. Devansh Yadav for ensuring timely action on key civic concerns, enhancing public trust in municipal governance. On visit of the deputation, the commissioner took on-spot actions like the introduction of E-buses on app Shambu route, building of ramp/staircase for toilet opposite app Shambu mandir etc

A special vote of thanks was extended to the Electrical Division of the Municipal Corporation, particularly S.P. Singh, Deepak Bhat, and Viktor Bhatti, for their relentless efforts in improving street lighting infrastructure in the colony, significantly enhancing safety and security. The association is optimistic that before the auspicious festival of aha Shivaratri, all lighting concerns shall systematically be resolved.

Sanitation issues remains yet an un-addressed grave concern for the residents since time and again despite several complaints/reminder no concreate action in a well systematic and uniform manner has been taken in this regard. Work and improvement related to sanitation is the need of the hour and requires grass root level decision making so as to improve the living conditions of the residents of the area.

The associations delegation meet the Urban Forest Department Jammu requesting the removal of fencing in spots where plants have already matured, thereby ensuring cleanliness of surrounding and removing nuisance. The DFO, Ashwani Kumar Mittal has assured the delegation that the task would be completed before the auspicious festival of Maha Shivaratri Mela on main route leading to app Shambu mandir.DD
