Jammu: In the wake of the recent heated atmosphere witnessed in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Jammu-based RTI Activist Raman Sharma has urged the Speaker and Chief Minister to organise a stress management session for all MLAs.
He said that during the recent proceedings, sharp arguments, shouting and instances of unparliamentary gestures were seen from several members across party lines. While differences of opinion are natural in a democracy, the dignity and decorum of the House must always be maintained. The Assembly is a respected institution and its proceedings should reflect discipline and mutual respect. He also appreciated the other MLAs who maintain strict discipline in the House despite heated debates.
Sharma suggested that a stress management and behavioural session conducted by experienced professionals could help members remain calm during debates, manage pressure and express their views in a balanced and respectful manner.
The RTI Activist further stated that both the ruling side and the opposition should try to understand each other’s perspective, as all members are elected representatives who have entered the Assembly on the strength of public votes.
He requested Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma to hold more informal interaction programmes and lunch gatherings to improve understanding among members and reduce bitterness.DD
