Sadhotra visits rain-hit Jammu North areas, expresses solidarity with sufferers

JAMMU,DD: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today undertook an extensive tour of flood-inundated areas of Jammu North Assembly Constituency and its periphery, to take stock of the situation arising out of heavy rains and subsequent waterlogging.

The areas Sadhotra visited included Nai Basti Lala-da-Bagh and Kalika Colony lower Muthi and Lower Roop Nagar, Municipal Wards No 66 & 67.

He interacted with the affected families and expressed deep solidarity with those whose belongings have been severely disrupted.

Sadhotra said the loss suffered by the people due to submergence of their homes and damage to their household goods, eatables, rations is deeply painful and calls for urgent attention of the administration.

He emphasized that the sufferers must not feel abandoned at this difficult hour, assuring them that the National Conference Govt. headed by Omar
Abdullah and our cadre stands shoulder to shoulder with them in their moment of distress.

During his interaction, Sadhotra underlined the need for immediate restoration works on a war footing.

He stressed that water must be pumped out from inundated residential colonies and low-lying areas without delay to prevent further damage to houses and to ensure normalcy at the earliest.

He called for mobilization of men and machinery so that life can return to normal quickly.

The former minister also expressed grave concern over the looming threat of water-borne diseases in the aftermath of floods. He urged the administration to press health and hygiene teams into service immediately and undertake sanitization drives in the affected localities. Distribution of bleaching powder, clean drinking water, and regular health camps, he said, would be vital to safeguard public health.

Sadhotra pointed out that the sufferers need immediate relief and assistance, as many of their belongings have been destroyed or rendered unusable.

He called for providing interim financial aid and supply of essential commodities to mitigate their hardships.

Later, Sadhotra spoke to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu and apprised him of the problems being faced by the people in various affected localities.

He urged the district administration to act swiftly in providing succor and demanded three months free ration to each affected families and ensured timely restoration of power supply, and adequate health cover to prevent any outbreak of diseases.

Conveying his heartfelt sympathy to the affected families, Sadhotra assured them that their voices will be raised at every appropriate forum.

He said, “In this hour of crisis, our foremost duty is to stand by the people, share their pain, and work collectively to restore normalcy with compassion and urgency.”
