Kupwara, (DD): People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone has taken a sharp dig at National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah over his recent remarks defending his party’s position on the controversial Waqf Bill. Speaking to media persons during his visit to Kupwara, Lone accused the NC of playing a double game and called for introspection within the party.
“I am not surprised by Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s remarks,” Lone said, adding, “The JKNC needs to introspect before making such statements. It was their own MLAs in the Assembly who supported the dissection of the Waqf Bill, and now Dr. Farooq Abdullah is trying to defend that stance by acting as a spokesperson.”
Lone’s comments come in the wake of growing criticism over the reconfiguration of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, which has been a contentious issue among political and religious circles in the region. While the NC has attempted to distance itself from the move, Lone accused the party of complicity, pointing to their legislative support during the bill’s passage.
The People’s Conference leader also questioned the NC’s consistency and credibility, stating that the party has often tried to rewrite its role in major decisions impacting Jammu and Kashmir.
The exchange marks yet another episode in the ongoing political rivalry between the NC and People’s Conference as they vie for influence ahead of the upcoming polls in the region(DD)
