Jammu,(DD): Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone today criticized the existing police verification procedures and urged the Jammu & Kashmir government to clarify its stance on employees who were terminated during central rule.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly during discussions on departmental grants headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lone expressed concern over intrusive and outdated questions in police verification forms.
“I was shocked to find questions like, ‘Where have you traveled in the last five years?’ and ‘Who is your father-in-law or mother-in-law?’ These procedures need to change, and the power to do so lies with the Chief Minister,” Lone stated.

He also demanded a clear government policy regarding terminated employees.
“Many were dismissed under BJP rule without being given a chance to defend themselves. Will the government review these terminations, reinstate them, or at least allow them to present their case?” he asked.
Lone further highlighted disparities in the issuance of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates, pointing out that while 27,000 certificates were issued in Jammu, only 2,700 were granted in Kashmir despite similar economic indicators. He called for revenue authorities to explain the rejections.
Raising concerns about students from Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) schools, Lone urged the Chief Minister and Education Minister to intervene, as these students have been barred from appearing in examinations.
“This issue directly affects their future, and the government must take immediate action,” he said.
Lone’s statements put pressure on the J&K administration to address long-standing concerns related to governance, employment, and education in the region.(DD)
