“Sajad Lone Wanted a Photoshoot, He Got a Nice Photo”: LoP Sunil Sharma mocks walkout

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu, ( DD): Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma took a swipe at Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone, remarking that “he wanted a photoshoot, and he got a nice photo” after Lone staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly today.

Lone walked out in protest after his amendments regarding Article 370, the police verification process, and a probe into the alleged rigging of the 1987 elections were disallowed by the Speaker. He argued that the issues he raised were critical and should have been included in the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address. However, the Speaker ruled that they were not admissible under the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the House.

Sharma, while addressing reporters after the session, dismissed Lone’s walkout as political theatrics. “This is nothing new. Some people just want attention. He wanted a photoshoot, and he got a nice photo,” Sharma quipped, implying that Lone’s protest was more about optics than serious legislative debate.

The exchange highlights the increasing friction between opposition leaders in the Assembly, with the debate over key political issues, including the status of Article 370 and governance policies, continuing to fuel sharp exchanges. While Lone has positioned himself as a strong voice against the government’s stance on these matters, Sharma’s remarks reflect skepticism about his intentions and political strategy.(DD)
