Udhampur : TDD,City braces for intensified strike as sanitation workers, joined by their families, took to the streets today in a defiant protest against recent detentions and the ongoing neglect of their demands. The demonstration, marked by black bands, was a direct response to yesterday’s forced cleanup by the administration and the subsequent arrests of several union members.
David, President Safai karamchari Union warned of escalating the strike into a full-blown movement if their demands are not met promptly and if the administration continues its heavy-handed approach. The union members have been vocal about their grievances, calling for better working conditions, increased wages, and an end to the alleged mistreatment by the authorities.
The protest comes on the heels of a tense standoff between the sanitation workers and the administration. Yesterday, after days of the city being inundated with garbage due to the ongoing strike, the authorities stepped in to clean up the streets, leading to clashes and subsequent arrests.
