JAMMU: DD, A police team from Police Station Satwari has arrested a selection grade police constable for his role in the killing of a tribal youth in peripheral area of Jammu City.
The arrested cop has been identified as Pawan Singh, son of Chail Singh, resident of R.S. Pura.
A police team, which allegedly conducted an anti-drug operation, came under scanner following the killing of a tribal youth namely Parvez Ahmed (21) @ Bachu, son of Rehmat Ali, a resident of Javed Nagar Nikki in the Sure Chak (Phallian Mandal) area under Satwari police station on July 24.
The arrest has been made under a case FIR Number 153 of 2025 under section 109 (1), 3 (5) BNS, 3/27 A.ACT of Police Station Satwari.
The incident raised eyebrows over the police action and it triggered massive protest demonstrations, whereas political pressure also built-up to frame and nab the police team members who were involved in the killing.

Initially, it was claimed that the youth was allegedly involved in “drugs” trade, and during a chase the police team was fired upon. However, the deceased youth’s family ruled-out these claims.
“The police team could have taken him into custody instead of opening fire at him,” the family members had said, while insisting his innocence.
Amid the tense situation, the police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident, and hold the accused persons accountable.
Meanwhile, PDP Chief, and Former Chief Minister of J&K, Mehbooba Mufti issued a statement on X: “The arrest of Pawan Singh in connection with the tragic death of Parvez Ahmed is a crucial step toward justice. It is a reminder that no one, not even those in uniform, are above the law.”
“This sends a strong message that accountability within the police force is not optional. Parvez was an innocent man, and while his loss is irreparable, this arrest offers a small hope that justice will be served,” reads the statement.
The Former Chief Minister further writes that “SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, under the leadership of IGP Jammu, deserves appreciation for ensuring a fair and transparent investigation, a step that helps restore faith in the system.”
She hopes now the judicial process takes its course and that Parvez, silenced in life, finds justice at last.DD
