Border Areas Remain on Alert’

Srinagar,(DD):In a significant step toward normalcy, schools and colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, excluding border regions, reopened today following a temporary closure prompted by recent tensions along the Line of Control (LoC).

Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed the resumption of classes in all non-border districts, stating that the decision was taken after a thorough assessment of the prevailing security situation. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and continuity of education for our children. Schools in border areas will reopen once we are assured of complete safety in those zones,” she said.

However, schools in sensitive border districts such as Kupwara, Baramulla, and the Gurez subdivision of Bandipora will remain closed until further notice. Officials emphasized that a review of the situation in these areas is ongoing and decisions will be made accordingly.

The reopening comes amid a broader de-escalation in the region, following a brief spike in cross-border tensions. With flight operations to and from Srinagar also resuming today, the region is cautiously returning to routine civilian life.

Parents and students in the reopened zones expressed relief and optimism. “It’s a huge relief to see schools open again. Education must not suffer,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a parent in Srinagar.

Authorities continue to monitor developments closely, urging residents in border areas to remain vigilant while assuring timely updates on school reopening plans.(DD)
