Udhampur :DD- Security personnel are placed on their toes in the Udhampur district after spotting four suspected militants in Khabbal (Chohan) village of Majalta area close to Billawar area of Kathua District.
It is believed that They are suspected to be the same militants who fled from Kathua after a gunfight on April 1st.
Locals from the village stated that the suspected terrorists broke into a home, asking for food and clothes. They also stole a mobile phone from the family living in the house before fleeing from the area.
This has increased security in the area as authorities try to trace and arrest the men.Following this move, security forces launched an extensive search operation covering Khabbal, Chohan village and its outskirts. The operation is already twelve days old, and troops are keeping a keen eye out for tracing and eliminating the suspected terrorists.
Official Sources have reported that the stolen cellular phone has been turned off, which implies trying to avoid being traced. Also, there has been a fear that the outfit has procured a guide for facilitating their mobility, as the number of suspected people has allegedly risen by one since the encounter in Kathua.
DIG Rayees Mohammad Bhat of Udhampur-Reasi Range has confirmed that security forces have initiated a search operation after intelligence inputs received last night regarding suspicious persons in the area. Addressing the media, DIG Bhat said that the operation is in progress in the border area between Kathua and Udhampur districts, i.e., near Ujjah River in Majlata tehsil of Udhampur district. “All the forces at hand have been deployed to track the suspects,” the DIG said. He added that the main aim is to provide security to local people in this sensitive area. DIG Bhat has called upon the public to be vigilant and report at once any suspect person or activity to the police to help the ongoing security operations.DD
