Udhampur, (DD): A major joint counter-insurgency operation has entered its second day in the dense forests of Birli Gali, located in the Dudu-Basantgarh region of Udhampur district. Personnel from the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have escalated efforts to track down and eliminate suspected militants believed to be concealed within the rugged, mountainous terrain.
The operation was launched on Thursday following credible intelligence indicating suspicious movement in the area. Upon initial contact, a fierce exchange of fire took place between the militants and security forces. Tragically, one soldier sustained grievous injuries during the early moments of the confrontation and later succumbed, despite receiving prompt first-aid.
This loss has only strengthened the resolve of the security forces, who have since reinforced the cordon and intensified the search operation. Drones and helicopters are being deployed to provide aerial surveillance and assist in navigating the challenging forested landscape.
Authorities remain on high alert, determined to prevent any escape attempt by the militants as the operation continues.(DD)
