Kulgam, (DD) The joint security operation in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has entered its eighth consecutive day, with one terrorist neutralised so far, officials confirmed.

The extended operation is being conducted by a joint team comprising the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG). According to a statement from Chinar Corps, the encounter has seen “intermittent and intense firefight”, with troops maintaining close contact and calibrated fire throughout.

“One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues,” read a post from Chinar Corps on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police on Thursday unearthed a terrorist hideout in the Gogaldara-Danwas forest area. Acting on specific intelligence, Baramulla Police recovered a cache that included a pistol, magazine, nine rounds of ammunition, a grenade, and medical supplies. An FIR has been registered at PS Tangmarg, and investigations are ongoing.

In another major development, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps thwarted an infiltration attempt across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector on July 30. Two terrorists were eliminated during the operation, codenamed Operation Shivashakti, and three weapons were recovered.

“Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs,” the White Knight Corps stated, attributing success to “synchronised intelligence inputs” from the Army and J&K Police.

Earlier, on July 29, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha that top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Suleman, involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, was among three terrorists neutralised by forces during Operation Mahadev near Harwan, close to Dachigam National Park in Srinagar.

The series of coordinated operations underscores the intensified efforts by Indian security forces to dismantle terror networks across the Union Territory and prevent cross-border infiltration(DD)
