Kishtwar/Ramban, April 21 (DD)
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have issued a severe weather alert for Kishtwar district, warning of moderate to intense rainfall accompanied by severe thunderstorm and lightning. Meanwhile, in nearby Ramban district, restoration work is in full swing to clear the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was partially blocked due to landslides triggered by continuous rain.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy showers at several locations across Kishtwar, raising the risk of landslides and flash floods in hilly and avalanche-prone areas. In response, the J&K Police has issued a public advisory, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
“Your safety is our priority,” read the official advisory issued by the police, along with a detailed list of emergency contact numbers to assist residents in case of distress.

Meanwhile, in Ramban, which often bears the brunt of inclement weather due to its mountainous terrain, road clearance operations are underway to restore traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). Landslides and shooting stones near critical points like Mehar, Panthyal, and Cafeteria Morh have disrupted traffic since early morning.
District administration and Border Roads Organization (BRO) teams are working round-the-clock with heavy machinery to ensure the highway is reopened at the earliest. Officials have advised commuters to check the status of the highway before planning any travel.
The situation remains dynamic, and authorities have requested citizens to stay updated through official channels, including Kishtwar Police’s social media handles on Facebook and Twitter (@SSP_Kishtwar) for real-time alerts and information.
As rainfall continues, the administration remains on high alert, monitoring both Kishtwar’s weather situation and Ramban’s highway restoration efforts closely to ensure public safety and connectivity.(DD)
