Mendhar,DD, The second edition of the Shaheed Manjeet Singh Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament commenced today at Op Hill Stadium, Mendhar, Poonch, organized by District Police Poonch under the Civic Action Programme. The tournament is being held in the revered memory of Shaheed Dy.SP Manjeet Singh, who laid down his life in the line of duty.
The opening ceremony was graced by the proud son of the soil, Mr. Moh Irshad Choudhary (JKPS), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Home Guard Jammu, along with a distinguished gathering that included senior citizens, veteran cricketers, youth of Poonch, media fraternity, and the general public. Their collective presence reflected deep respect for the sacrifice and service of Shaheed Dy.SP Manjeet Singh.
The tournament was inaugurated with a ceremonial start by SSP Poonch, Shri Shafkat Hussain (JKPS), who was accompanied by senior officers of District Police Poonch, including SDPO Mendhar, Shri Tussif Ahmed (JKPS), and territorial SHOs.
This cricketing event aims not only to provide a vibrant platform for local youth to showcase their sporting talent but also to strengthen the bond between the police and the community while keeping alive the legacy of the martyr.
The tournament has received an overwhelming response from the public and promises to be a thrilling sporting occasion. As many as 64 teams, with players hailing from the twin districts of Pir Panjal—Rajouri and Poonch—are participating.
The winners and runners-up will be felicitated with cash prizes of ₹80,000 and ₹50,000 respectively, along with multiple rewards and consolation prizes for outstanding performances.
The successful organization of this event stands as a fitting tribute to Shaheed Dy.SP Manjeet Singh and reaffirms the commitment of District Police Poonch towards youth engagement, communal harmony, and nurturing local talent.DD
