Heavy exchange of fire continues between security forces & terrorists at Safian’s woods; high alert across Jammu border belt

KATHUA: DD, A Special Operation Group (SOG) of J&K Police today sustained injuries during the ongoing gunfight between the security forces and the terrorists in Kathua District.
The gunfight broke out when the contact with the terrorists was established by the security forces, who were conducting a cordon and search operation in the area, following specific inputs about the movement of the terrorists.
The security forces have cordoned the entire area at Safian forests in Panchayat Juthana in Kathua District.
As soon as the SOG teams, Army and paramilitary closed in, the sources said, the terrorists opened fire on the security forces, triggering an encounter.
In this encounter, the sources said that one SOG jawan sustained injuries and he has been hospitalized at GMC Kathua.
Meanwhile, the security forces have increased their vigil across Jammu plains, and border belt, whereas the checking has been intensified in Jammu City as well amid high alert, the sources added.
Till the filing of this report, the heavy exchange of fire continued between the security forces, and the terrorists. Further reports are awaited.
