Srinagar Police Attaches Property Worth Rs 1.5 Crore in Major Crackdown on Drug Peddling

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar,(DD)In a decisive move against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police on Monday attached a residential property valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The action is part of an intensified crackdown on narcotics networks and their financial lifelines.

The attached property includes a two-storey residential house and 1 kanal 4 marlas of land situated in Budoo Bagh, Khanyar. The property, as per revenue records, is owned by Gulzar Ahmad Bhat (son of Late Abdul Rehman Bhat) and is currently in the possession of his son, Suhail Ahmad Bhat — a known drug peddler.

Suhail is accused in FIR No. 55/2022 registered under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Khanyar. He is reportedly involved in widespread drug peddling activities, primarily targeting local youth, and is seen as a serious threat to public health and community well-being.

Investigations revealed that the attached property was acquired using proceeds from illicit drug trafficking. Acting under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, police formally seized and attached the immovable property following due legal process. The property can no longer be sold, transferred, or dealt with without approval from the competent authority.

This development marks a significant step in Jammu and Kashmir Police’s broader strategy to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting drug trade in the region.

The police reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related crimes and urged the public to actively support efforts to eradicate the menace by sharing relevant information.

“Together, we can build a safer, healthier, and drug-free Srinagar,” the statement said.DD
