Srinagar,(DD): As part of heightened security preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Srinagar Police on Wednesday conducted full-scale mock drills at multiple locations, including the Yatra Niwas base camp in Pantha Chowk.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Choudhary, said the drills were carried out across all eight zones of the city to test readiness for various emergency scenarios such as IED explosions, militant attacks, stampedes, and fire incidents.

“We are fully prepared to respond to any situation during the Yatra. These drills are essential to fine-tune our coordination and ensure rapid response in case of an emergency,” said the SSP. He also appealed to citizens for full cooperation, especially regarding movement restrictions and traffic regulations during the pilgrimage period.

The police have also upgraded the Face Recognition System (FRS) to enhance surveillance and identify potential threats more efficiently during the Yatra.

The exercises were jointly conducted by the Srinagar Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and the Special Operations Group (SOG), simulating real-time responses to critical incidents.

The Amarnath Yatra is expected to see a large influx of pilgrims this year, and authorities are taking no chances when it comes to public safety and smooth conduct of the annual religious event.(DD)
