Srinagar,(DD)In a major breakthrough, Srinagar Police has successfully dismantled a large inter-state drug trafficking network, delivering a significant blow to the region’s drug trade.

This operation, initiated under Case FIR No. 136/2024 under the NDPS Act, highlights the police’s continued commitment to eradicating drug-related crime.

The investigation, which involved analyzing financial transactions and communication records, led to the identification of two key drug suppliers: Raju Gupta from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohammad Abrar from Bhajanpura, Delhi. These individuals were found to be the primary sources of narcotics distributed to local drug peddlers in Srinagar.

A team from Srinagar Police, led by Sub-Inspector Amandeep Singh from the Noorbagh Police Post, carried out an intensive 10-day operation in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, with the support of local police. Gupta was apprehended on January 23, 2025, in Bareilly, and Abrar was arrested the following day in Bhajanpura, Delhi. Both have been presented before the respective courts and are currently in police custody after transit remands.

Further investigation has revealed a suspicious courier parcel linked to the drug network in Loni, Ghaziabad. Authorities are working to retrieve the parcel, pending court approval. The financial assets and properties of the accused are also under investigation, with the possibility of confiscation under the NDPS Act.

This case dates back to November 8, 2024, when a routine naka checking at Tarbal Chowk, Srinagar, led to the arrest of three local drug peddlers: Aijaz Ahmad Ganie, Owais Ahmad Gojri, and Mir Roman. Police seized substantial evidence, including 140 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, Rs 38,530 in suspected drug proceeds, and devices used for monitoring drug transactions, including a drone camera.

Srinagar Police has vowed to continue its efforts to dismantle drug networks, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring justice and the safety of society. Investigations are ongoing, with additional arrests and seizures expected in the coming days.(DD)
