Srinagar Police Intensifies Crackdown on Terror Network, Raids Multiple Locations Across City

Srinagar, May 13 (DD): In a sustained effort to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem and act against associates of proscribed terrorist outfits, Srinagar Police has intensified operations across multiple locations in the city as part of investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The targeted searches are part of an ongoing crackdown aimed at eliminating the infrastructure that supports terrorism within the district. Numerous residential premises belonging to suspected terrorist associates have been searched to disrupt and neutralise logistical support networks.

In the latest round of operations, police raided the residences of the following individuals:

  1. Noor Mohammad Sheikh, son of Late Gh Mohammad, resident of Kanimazar – FIR No. 156/2023 under sections 7/25 Arms Act, 13, 23, 39 UAPA.
  2. Waseem Tariq Matta, son of Tariq Ahmad, resident of Rampora – FIR No. 46/2023 under sections 7/25 Arms Act, 4/5 Explosives Act, 18, 23, 38 UAPA, Police Station Chanpora.
  3. Anjum Younis, daughter of Mohammad Younis, resident of Kenihama – FIR No. 27/2021 under sections 302, 392, 7/27 Arms Act, 13, 16, 18, 20 UAPA, Police Station Nowgam.
  4. Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rehman, resident of Syedpora Eidgah – FIR No. 51/2021 under sections 302, 147, 148, 149 RPC, 13 UAPA, Police Station Safakadal.
  5. Faizyab Showkat Dewani, son of Showkat Ahmad, resident of Pater Masjid Zainakadal – FIR No. 35/2022 under sections 505, 153-A, 153-B IPC, 13 UAPA, Police Station M.R. Gunj.
  6. Bilal Lone @ Choonin, son of Ab Rahman Lone, resident of Saidpora Eidgah – FIR Nos. 51/2021 (Nowhatta) and 130/2016 (Safakadal) under relevant sections of RPC and UAPA.
  7. Manzoor Tola (released militant), son of Asadullah Tola, resident of Khanesokhta – FIR No. 156/2023 under sections 13, 19, 39 UAPA, Police Station Safakadal.
  8. Mohammad Ayoub Dar, son of Gh Mohammad Dar, resident of Reiteng Khanyar – FIR No. 31/2024 under sections 7/25 Arms Act, 13, 18, 20, 23, 39 UAPA, Police Station Khanyar.
  9. Mushtaq Ahmad Bachoon, son of Gh Mohi-ud-din Bachoon, resident of Kathidarwaza Rainawari – same FIR as above.
  10. Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Late Gh Qadir, resident of Trehgam Kupwara, currently at Deviangan Hawal – same FIR as above.
  11. Firdous Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Mohammad Dar, resident of Ibrahim Colony – FIR No. 46/2023, Police Station Chanpora.

All searches were carried out in strict accordance with legal procedures, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses, and under the supervision of senior officers from Jammu and Kashmir Police. The primary objective was to seize arms, incriminating documents, and digital devices to support evidence collection and intelligence gathering.

This robust action reflects the unwavering commitment of Srinagar Police to uproot terror-support structures and safeguard the peace and security of the region. Authorities have reaffirmed that anyone found aiding or abetting terrorism or unlawful activity will face strict legal consequences.

Srinagar Police continues to appeal to citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their surroundings.(DD)
