Srinagar, (DD) In a significant operation against the circulation of extremist ideology, the Srinagar Police have seized 668 books allegedly promoting the doctrine of a banned organisation. Acting on credible intelligence, the authorities conducted a search in the city, leading to the confiscation of the material and subsequent legal action under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).
The raid, carried out in a covert yet swift operation, targeted locations suspected of being hubs for the clandestine sale and distribution of prohibited literature. Officials stated that the books contained ideological content that could incite unrest and radicalisation. The seizure marks a stern warning to those involved in propagating unlawful narratives under the guise of academic or religious discourse.
A senior police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed: “We had specific inputs about the illegal circulation of material linked to a proscribed organisation. Immediate action was taken to prevent its further spread. The investigation is ongoing to trace the network behind this distribution.”
Legal proceedings under BNSS Section 126, which replaces older provisions under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), have been initiated. This section deals with offences related to unlawful activities, incitement, and seditious materials. Police sources indicated that individuals linked to the seized literature may face interrogation and further action.
The crackdown underscores the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards any attempt to foster extremism in the region. Authorities have urged citizens to report suspicious activities and assured them of continued vigilance against elements threatening peace and stability.
