Srinagar records first sub zero temperatures at minus 0.7 degrees Celsius

Doctors sound caution, asks parents to keep children warm

Srinagar, TDD,Amid dry weather, Srinagar recorded the first sub-zero temperature of the season at minus 0.7°C on the night of November 19-20.

An independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif said that Srinagar recorded first sub zero temperature of minus 0.7 on the intervening night of November 19-20.

The temperatures plummeted in Srinagar amid dry spell even as light spell of snowfall was recorded on upper reaches of Kashmir on November 16-17.

Yesterday nights sub zero temperatures have signalled the commencement of harsh winter and frosty mornings.

The Meteorological department has already predicted dry weather till November 24 hinting at further drop at the night temperatures in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley. The department has also stated that this year, winter will be more harsh given the weather patterns. It has cautioned the people of Valley to take precautions as various ailments caused by dry weather are at large that include cough, cold, sneezing, chest infections, fever etc.

Doctors too have asked people to stay cautious and keep children warm during the dry weather and intense cold conditions.

“Cold and cough are common among children during the persistent dry weather in the valley. Precautions are must. Children need to wear warm clothes and avoid outdoor activities during morning and evening hours, ” said Dr Naved Nazir, Head of Department at Chest diseases hospital, Srinagar.
Meanwhile, “Minus 3.9°C was recorded in Shopian, while as temperature dropped to minus 3.7°C in Pahalgam, ” the weather forecaster Arif said–(TDD)
