Srinagar Records Hottest June Day in 20 Years at 35.2°C

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD) Srinagar sizzled under an intense sun today as the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C, making it the hottest June day in the city since 2005.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, this is the highest temperature recorded in Srinagar in the month of June since 25 June 2005, when the mercury had soared to 36.5°C. The all-time record for June remains 37.8°C, set on 29 June 1978.

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif, who runs the popular weather platform Kashmir Weather, confirmed the milestone and cautioned about the trend of rising summer temperatures.

“Today’s temperature is a clear indication of the warming trend we’ve been observing in recent years. While not the all-time highest, it is certainly significant and unusual for this time of the month,” Arif said.

The soaring temperature has raised concerns among health officials and the general public, with doctors advising residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has predicted continued dry weather with above-normal temperatures in the coming days(DD)
