Srinagar, TDD,Srinagar streets are witnessing a significant transformation, thanks to the Traffic Department’s robust crackdown on underage driving.
The initiative, aimed at restoring order and discipline to the city’s chaotic roads, has already begun to yield positive results.
SSP Traffic City (Srinagar), Muazafar Shah, who led today’s drive in the Bemina area, spoke about the campaign’s positive impact. “Counselling is a key part of our drive. Traffic management has seen notable improvements, and we are receiving heartfelt appreciation calls from parents,” he said. RTO Kashmir Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari was also present, adding to the importance of the initiative.
The outcomes of this drive are already evident. In the last 15 days alone, more than 5,500 two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been seized for traffic violations across Srinagar and surrounding areas. Many schools have also stepped up their policies, ensuring that minors no longer bring vehicles to school, further reinforcing the drive’s success.
Parents have expressed their relief and support. Altaf Ahmad, a Bemina resident, shared, “I feel much safer now, knowing that my son and other minors are being educated and prohibited from driving without a license.” Foziya Akhtar, another parent, added, “This drive has brought much-needed accountability. It’s reassuring to see the authorities taking action to protect our children and others on the road.” She further mentioned that her son now prefers traveling by public buses instead of riding his father’s motorcycle.
Once riddled with reckless underage drivers, Srinagar’s roads now reflect a sense of order and responsibility. With ongoing support from the community and continued efforts from the Traffic Department, the city is moving towards a safer, more disciplined future for all. (TDD)
